FM Industries, Inc., a leading contract manufacturer of Precision Components and Assemblies for the Semiconductor Capital Equipment Industry, has an immediate opening for a Lead Mechanical Inspector to work in Phoenix, AZ.


Oversee and coordinate efforts of quality inspection team
Ensure proper work habits are maintained and equipment is used properly
Verify equipment is available, calibrated, and working properly
Report concerns as they relate to safety, resources, work load and employee performance to Quality management.


Read and evaluate complex blueprints and shop math (Trigonometry)
Good knowledge of GD&T
Coordinate QA Lab workload and scheduling of priority jobs
Provide inspection methods guidance to inspectors
Perform hands-on Sr. Mechanical Inspector level work
Review routers to ensure upstream processes have been completed and signed off
Look ahead on routers to ensure that downstream operations are logical
Train inspectors on operation and programming of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)
Ensure cross-training of inspectors and maintain records
Oversee day-to-day function of the QA Lab
Oversee processing of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIs) by inspectors
Oversee processing of Final Inspection Reports (FIRs) and Certificate of Compliance documents
Oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection performed by inspectors
Oversee processing of customer part to print documents to accompany shipments
Manage calibration process for all instruments and test equipment in conformance to ISO-9001
Complete Discrepant Material Report (DMR) forms for rejected parts
Alert Production supervisors to critical quality problems within their work centers
Contribute/Attend Material Review Board (MRB) meetings with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, and the Supplier Quality Manager as required to make timely disposition of discrepant parts
Participate in Quality Department continuous improvement efforts
Assist in completion of customer and internally generated corrective action issues
Oversee the processing of raw material Certificates of Compliance
Ensure proper maintenance of required QA Lab records, files, logs, and databases
Provide quality related technical support to Manufacturing
Perform additional related duties as assigned


Visual inspection experience
Ability to correctly use and interpret basic measuring tools including weight gauge, micrometer, caliper scale (linear), gauge blocks, thread gauges, and comparative standards
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interact with fellow employees and customers in a professional manner and provide supervision as required
Ability to understand and follow instructions
Ability to work with minimal supervision and provide technical guidance to inspectors


Minimum of 5 to 10 years of directly related work experience in a manufacturing environment
American Society for Quality certification preferred
