Hi! I'm looking to start a mixed-voice a cappella group. I'm a dude (if it wasn't clear from me being a bass, but hey ladies can be basses too) in my mid-20s and did a cappella all throughout high school and college, and I wanted to find some cool, cool people my age (20s and 30s) who want to sing together like beautiful, rock'n'roll angels. I'm thinking of meeting maybe once or twice a week? I'm located in Irvine, but I'd be willing to travel to practice.
I was my group's musical director all through college and I have a decent amount of experience arranging vocal parts. I also started another group before I moved to OC, so I have some experience with that too. So if you can't arrange music, don't worry! If you can, that's awesome too.
I'm looking for pretty much all parts. I got bass covered but I can also do vocal percussion, so if I don't find a beatboxer I'll still need a bass. I'm looking for a group of about 6 people, so it'll be small. I'm flexible about the kind of music we'd sing, but I'd probably want to be a little more rock-ey than pop-ey. I've arranged jazz, top 40 stuff, indie rock, folk, 80s electro, I don't care what it is as long as we can sound good singing it. I'd also like to do some more experimental, fun, crazy, out-there stuff if anyone has an interest.
Some experience with choral/vocal singing is necessary, but while a cappella experience is a plus it's not 100% required for this. If you can hold a tune, memorize a part, and blend with other singers, I can teach you how to do a cappella. It's preferable if you're comfortable being both a soloist and a backup singer as required, but if you'd rather not solo that's fine.
Shoot me an email, we can talk about whether we can get this off the ground or not. I'm predicting that we'll get so rich and famous we can all quit our jobs, and make all the people who did Glee and Pitch Perfect jealous of how amazing we are.
