The Santa Barbara office of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck is looking for an experienced legal secretary for the Natural Resources Department. The position supports two shareholders and one associate who work in the area of water law. Excellent opportunity to learn more about the long history and complexities of California's water law and the current drought.
Essential Responsibilities include
Familiarity with basic civil procedure requirements and capability of determining civil procedure requirements in any federal or state court and local jurisdictions. Understanding of how court rules fit together;
Creation of court documents, correspondence, agreements, and environmental reports with high level of grammar, syntax, proofreading and formatting using advanced Word capabilities such as table of authorities, table of contents, styles, tables; and
General administrative duties, including travel arrangements, preparing expense reimbursements, and processing new file/conflict/intake procedures.
Required skills and knowledge includes
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite 2010 and document management software.
Ability to quickly understand the attorneys' practice requirements to anticipate needs and proactively prepare or propose the next step;
Ability to work under pressure;
Ability to remember and follow through on every detail necessary to timely complete all projects and deadlines; and
A minimum of five years' experience as a litigation secretary.

Comfortable and effective with multi-tasking to complete concurrent deadlines on an ongoing basis;
Accountable through highly organized and precise calendar and task management; and
Able to effectively monitor and respond to email and other inquiries on an ongoing, up-to-the-minute basis.
