Admissions Coordinator for SERRC's Juneau Construction Academy Program

Job Summary:

The mission of the Juneau Construction Academy is to provide basic construction skills training to adults and youth to meet the needs of local construction employers. The Admissions Coordinator is responsible for student recruitment, assessment, screening and intake of adults and out of school youth applying for courses offered by the Juneau Construction Academy. The Admissions Coordinator, while collaborating with Academy partners, will promote the Construction Academy to the public, facilitate the selection of students and provide on-going support to enrolled participants. The Juneau Construction Academy is a program of SERRC - The Learning Connection.

Professional Qualifications and Desired Skills:

High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred
Alaska drivers license required
Excellent customer services skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including public speaking presentations
Ability to work with adults and older youth of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the Internet
Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to work independently
Ability to multitask and work effectively in a time-sensitive environment

Job Duties:

* Liaison with Partners - Alaska Works Partnership (AWP), Juneau School District (JSD), University of Alaska Southeast Technical Education Center (UAS), Juneau Job Center - Alaska Department of Labor, Southeast Alaska Building Industry Association (SEABIA) and Associated General Contractors of Alaska (AGC) and the union representatives and apprenticeship coordinators
* Conduct program promotion and recruitment for Juneau Construction Academy classes for adults and out of school youth
* Assist SERRC Marketing Director in publicizing the Academy with development of promotion materials including brochures, information flyers, PSAs, press releases, newspaper and radio advertising
* Serve as point of contact for Academy admission and application, distribute publications and application information to partners
* Meet with individuals on-on-one and in group orientations to supply information to partners
* Meet with individuals one-on-one and in group orientations to supply information about Academy classes, course expectations and how to apply
* Facilitate assessment and screening of applicants including administering Career Ready 101 Test and AWP math placement test
* Schedule and conduct interviews to select applicants for Construction Academy
* Assist and support applicants with creating resumes, registering on ALEXsys, and post academy work search, including referrals to community resources
* Maintain student records, write and submit Academy progress reports, collect data, document certificates and monitor individual student progress and attendance
* Collaborate with partners to issue certificates and monitor individual student progress and attendance
* Collaborate with partners to issue certificates at completion of courses, compile statistics on Academy achievements
* Work flexible schedule as required to meet program needs
* Other duties as assigned in support of the implementation of Juneau Construction Academy

Duration of job: 24 weeks at approximately 25/hours/week contract - time per week may vary to meet program needs however total may not exceed 600 hours.
