Locations: Varies, depends which school you will be placed in (Logan Square, Humboldt Park)
Hours: Before and After School hours, 24 hours per week. Monday --Friday. Varies based on school start and end times.
Pay: Hourly rate 11-12.50 per hour based on education and experience
The Youth Enrichment Instructor is responsible for implementing and adapting a wide variety of enrichment activities for grades K-8 in a before or after-school program setting. This position will be hired through McCormick Tribune YMCA and be placed in surrounding schools in Logan Square, Humboldt Park and surrounding areas. The Youth Enrichment Instructor plays a key role in ensuring that program participants have a safe, supportive, interactive and enriching program experience while ensuring the safety and security of all program participants.
Scope of Responsibilities
Creates a safe, supportive, interactive, and engaging environment for youth that is characterized by teamwork, camaraderie and inclusiveness for all children. This includes demonstrating an appreciation of children's efforts and accomplishments and providing assistance and encouragement to program participants when needed.
Provide effective supervision of all children that is age-appropriate, considers diverse abilities and interests and meets program quality, safety and policy requirements.
Positively interacts with children, parents/guardians and other team members to create a respectful, warm, supportive environment. Models self-control, respect and cooperation to children and other team members. Utilizes youth arrival/departure to share information with parents/guardians and build relationships.
Prepare daily lesson plans outlining program activities, prepares equipment and ensures that materials and supplies are available and ready for all daily program activities. Ensures all program areas and supplies are clean and well maintained regularly.
Maintains accurate attendance, instructional and other records as necessary to meet program requirements.
Participate in team meetings and other school-age program activities as needed.
Support the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by:
oReporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
oFollowing all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
oReporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
oCompleting all child abuse prevention training as required.
Candidates must be at least 19 years old in order to meet program requirements
Minimum of A.A./A.S. degree or be pursuing B.A./B.S. degree with 12 hours of coursework in education, child development, recreation or related.
Must have passion and commitment to youth development with the ability to inspire and motivate children. This also includes the demonstrated ability to work with children and parents from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to initiate projects and develop and implement and array of social-educational activities on an independent basis.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities is critical.
Successful completion of a fingerprinted-based criminal background check in addition to other YMCA or program-based requirements
Willingness to be certified in CPR/First Aid and complete all training and development required of YMCA employees to meet program quality, compliance and safety requirements
