During the 4 years of the Civil War, Children were told that "Santa Clause" wouldn't be coming because the Northern Yankees, had kidnapped him. An untruth, but how did you explain to children the devestation of the times, little food, many homes destroyed, fathers and brothers away or Missing in action.
Replicating that Civil War Christmas Dinner, has been a tradition of the Moore family in memory of those in our ancestry who fought on both sides...they were all Americans...they were all patriots...they were all fighting for their cause, and in that vein, we honor them by serving a Civil War Style dinner each December 12, 5pm - 8pm.
After the meal, we shall wander across the street for a historic house tour of the Dunk's Ferry Inn, actually a revolutionary war home, which saw Washington's troops go by on "James Fenimore Cooper Street" in search of Hessians (German mercinaries hired by the British).
Then we will continue our tour, across the street to "300 year old Historic Whitebriar", the family home of William E. Moore III, where we shall enjoy libations by the fire places, and sing to the Christmas Carol's of the player piano, in the great hall.
Note: all our staff are CPR/FirstAidResponders/AED certified and are glad to assist in any way. (we can help any handicapped with the first floor of each building, but due to the age of the homes, the 2nd floor is not accessible). We regret the inconvenience.
Reservations are $45 advanced and $55 day of tour if there is space. Mail check to "Whitebriar", 1101 Cooper St, Edgewater Park, N.J. 08010 where the tour will begin.
