Need Dueling Pianist. This is a great opportunity for someone that may be interested in developing in this lucrative field. A popular local club in Durango is willing to give someone the opportunity to develop themselves into a professional dueling pianist. We have the location, the soundman, the equipment, and the pianos. We are in need of musicians that play the piano and sing at the same time.
First of all, you must be Fearless. You do not have to be an accomplished singer or piano player, but you will need lots of personality and bravery. And if you don't have personality now ... BUT you know HOW to play and sing at the same time ... you must be willing to grow and develop a "stage personality" as you develop yourself into a professional dueling pianist.
You cannot take yourself too seriously onstage. You should "want" to have fun onstage and be able to talk to an audience from the stage. And if you can't do that JUST YET ... efforts will be made to pair you with someone that can do the talking. But in time, you must be willing to make an effort to engage the audience. You must be willing to do your part because all musicians are also working for tips as well.
You will always have another person on the other side of the stage with you. Each player takes a turn playing a song (preferably an audience-requested song) and we currently work on rotating four (4) piano players in a night (sometimes 3). There are usually breaks for each piano player throughout the night. When the other person is leading the song, you can play along with the other person to simply enhance or accessorize a song, but it is not required. You must be someone that is respectful and not "hijack" a song that someone else is leading. Often when one pianist is leading the song, the other person is working on the next request that he/she intends to play.
You do not need equipment. However, you will need transportation to get to the gigs. You should also have availability on Fridays and Saturdays as most of the shows are on the weekends. However, this could change depending on the flexibility of other musicians and entertainment demands from the audience. And you should be someone that is responsible, timely, respectful of other musicians, and someone that has good work ethics and drive. You must enjoy learning songs.
It is extremely helpful if you are able to PLAY PIANO & SING with ease at the same time. You should be able to read charts/music or at least have a Great Ear to translate songs to a piano/voice arrangement so an audience "gets" (understands) the song you are trying to play.
You must be able to learn songs quickly. Or if a song is requested, it is an added plus if you should be willing & able to perform them on the fly onstage if you have heard the song (via iPad charts or paper charts or by memory). You must know lots of songs of various styles, or be willing TO LEARN lots of songs of various styles.
If any or all of this sounds like you ... we need you now to contact us. We are setting up interviews, auditions, and training. Don't miss this opportunity. You too can be "the piano man" -- or "the piano woman". Contact Anna at this email address - officialtinyplanet at hotmail dot com or call or text
