The Washington Federation of Independent Schools, a well-established statewide non-profit organization, is looking for an excellent writer who is creative and tech-savvy. This is a small office doing big work. The job is strategic and emphasizes communication management and building relationships with the organization's constituencies. It is a strategic position that leverages membership to affect public opinion and policy related to private education.
If you are interested in education and education policy, have a particular appreciation for private education, can engage and connect with people who may have opposing points of view, have a mastery of language, and a solid understanding of the current media landscape, we are looking for you!
In a small office there is a wide-variety of tasks, however your principal responsibilities include:
Advancing the organization's mission: ". . .to strengthen education for the students of Washington State as the advocate for and voice of independent schools."
Crafting communications using information and data from a variety of sources to help promote WFIS' mission and vision.
Developing strategies to increase WFIS' reach, effectiveness and impact including widening the readership of our newsletter, expanding our web traffic, and identifying new media and social networking possibilities.
Maintaining and troubleshooting the website and database.
Ensuring the content on our site and blog is consistently updated, interesting, lively and relevant.
Collecting and relaying new research, or current and interesting relevant articles to members.
Standing in for Executive Director at meetings or events if/when necessary.
At a minimum a successful candidate should have:
A Bachelor's degree
Significant work experience in new media
Experience in a school environment (helpful, but not mandatory)
Excellent communication skills
A history of interest in education
Experience, training, and/or background with research and editing
Office location: Tacoma, WA
Hours: Part time; flexible for right candidate.
