This antique recliner has the Original metal tag on it of the Royal Easy Chair Company. Here is an article about it:
"The Royal Easy Chair Company, also known as the 'Royal Chair Company', was a furniture manufacturer based in the town of Sturgis, Michigan which operated from 1899 until 1928. The company's speciality was reclining Morris chairs, and the company was renowned for their 'push button' reclining chairs. They held a number of patents on the push-button mechanism, and today antique Morris chairs with such a mechanism are almost guaranteed to be from the Royal Chair Company."
"Morris chairs were an early style of reclining chair, created by the English textile designer and artist William Morris and first sold during the 1860s."
"In good working condition, Royal Chair Company Morris chairs can sell from $200 to more than $800 depending on the style and upholstery. The most valuable examples are those with all their spindles, a working reclining mechanism (either original or professionally restored) and original or reupholstered fabric."
****The chair needs someone to fix the mechanism to get it out of the reclining position. It can be used like it is if you put it against a wall propped up. It is a solid heavy chair. The upholstery is a black naugahyde in good shape. There is a corner starting to separate on the front right bottom cushion, but doesn't affect the use of it. And there is a small split in the front (2nd to last picture). The chair measures 29" x 29.5" x 36"****
I do occasionally get to Sioux Falls or could meet in Brookings.
