This painting was purchased from a rural Nevada estate a few years ago. The original owner moved to rural Nevada from Whittier, California. The painting measures 30 inches by 40 inches. This is an oil on canvas. There is soiling and crazing, but everything is stable. The original frame shows wear. This is all to be expect based on the painting's age, which I am estimating to be 1930. The painting is signed EH Pohl, as shown.
Ernest Henry Pohl (1874-1956) was born in Michigan on August 7, 1874. By 1915 Pohl had settled in San Diego at 4468 Hortensia Street. A civic and cultural leader, he and his wife, Catherine, were founders of the La Jolla Art Center. A businessman, he painted in his leisure until his death in San Diego on January 9, 1956. His works include desert landscapes of Coachella Valley and Borrego Valley. Works held: University of Notre Dame, South Bend, In. Source: DR.
