ROLLS ROYCE AEROSPACE CORP: Mechanical Design Engineer. Worked on development of the LIFTFAN GEARBOX used in the Joint Strike Fighter. Evaluation of the Gear Box Limit Stack Calculations, thermal expansions, Assembly Procedures, Component Weight Reductions, lubrication fluid baffles, fasteners, etc. Materials worked with include Aluminums, Titaniums, Steels, Plastics, etc. Cad system was Unigraphics.
BORG WARNER TURBO SYSTEMS: Mechanical Development Engineer. Development, Design, build and test of a new venture air-cooled system to keep an electronic controls actuator at low temperature during diesel engine operation. Heat from exhaust manifold provided high heat radiation, conduction, etc. Other contributions include vendor contacts, CFD evaluations, engine test observations, written reports, supervised PRO/E designers and drafters.
GROUP 4 CONSULTANTS: Project Manager/Consultant
Proposal and Application of a lifting device with drive trains using screw and chain drives.
Devices lifted material to various floors in builds being supported by scaffolding. Previously (for same company) Designed, evaluated, and configured an elevator for a Harley Davidson dealer to lift motorcycles from basement storage area to other floors. Lifting device had rack and pinion drive. Structural evaluation, design, stress, weldments, etc. Worked on F-18 Nose Wheel Landing Gear hydraulic turning motor-adaptation ffor proposal for use on TORNADO JET FIGHTER.
CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE COMPANY: Mechanical Global Validation Engineer. Contributed to setting up, writing, and evaluation of engine testing plans for components to prove "equal or better" (Interchangeability-verified that components met performance, functional and curability requirements) than existing components and met Cummins Specifications. Wrote technical reports- Components were made in USA, China, Mexico, Europe, etc. Components included Hydraulic PTO's, Oil Coolers, Water Pumps, Valves and Seats, Crankshaft, Adapters, Air Intake Heaters, Seals, Fasteners, Fluid Plumbing Fixtures, etc. Set-up, provided liaison, wrote plans and reports for Metallurgical Evaluations, stress, fatigue life testing (B10 & B50). Wear, pressure drop, heat transfer, shaker vibration testing, engine testing. Engineering Calculations, reviewed drawings, vendor testing, support requirements. Cummins engine development specifications, reports, design upgrades. Designed and evaluated test fixtures, engine test data collection/evaluations. Evaluation tools used were DVP&R, PPAP, FMEA, GANTT CHARTS, CFD AND FEA EVALUATIONS, GD&T, Drawing System was PRO/E.
Design to Reduce Average Sump Engine Oil Temperatures by locating cooling water "short circuit" in Engine Block. Effect is to increase engine and component life.
DESIGN SPECIALITIES CO: Mechanical Engineer /Consultant Engineering design, test and analysis on hydraulic steering components and actuators. Data collection from tests, failure analysis of components, gears, structures, drive motors, drive trains, etc. Project Scheduling Engineering Calculations, Heat Transfer, metallurgical evaluations, technical reports, specifications, etc. Also product development on material handling product lines.
CATERPILLAR: Hydraulic Piston Pump and Motor Group-Mechanical Engineer
Hydraulic units to power off-road vehicles such as track type loaders, excavators, etc. Working pressures of 6,000 psi. Design and build motors and components. Monitored lab tests, stress, fatigue life, wear, endurance and impulse testing (B10 and B50), temperature increases, fluid flow, cavitation, leakage, etc. at Tech Facilities (Mossville). Liaison between product team, test engineers, technicians. Evaluated all test reports, Set up tests, and collected data, Verified components metal all functional and endurance wear and impulse tests required by CAT specifications. Contributions included stress, fatigue life calculations, stress concentration factors, fluid analysis, cavitation, rapid prototyping, model analysis, patent evaluations, GD&T, CFD and FEA evaluations, Field Testing in Europe, USA. Lab and Test Liaison, Paten CAT applied for a patent for a new pump component concept to reduce cavitation. CAR Project Management Seminar and PRO/E training seminars.
GROUP 4 CONSULTANTS: JOHN DEERE/FORD PROJECT
ENGINE COOLING TEST ENGINEER CONSULTANT: Hands on testing of John Deere Components and Radiator. Project Management and Chief Engineer.
Headed up the design and build of an engine radiator wind tunnel test stand to lab test the cooling capability of a Modine Radiator. Data Collection and evaluations. Wrote technical reports. The system mounted on a chassis built by John Deere Co. It was used to cool both the FORD 460 CI gas engine and the 7.5 L Diesel Engine-along with the C-6 transmission. Project included design and build of the wind tunnel test stand which included pumping coolant, transmission fluid and cooling air flow.
Additional, vehicle field testing was performed including all air flow and temp in the engine compartment. Data collections and monitoring electronics cooling flows to maintain a maximum of 150 degrees F to prevent loss of engine controls. Reviewed all desert testing reports as done in Kingsman, NV and Mojave Deserts in California.-High Altitude and High temps of 100 degrees F. Project Management, design and testing, Liaison with Client-Planned Supervised testing-Evaluated testing and wrote reports.
WHITE FARM TRACTOR COMPANY: Mechanical Engineer
Worked on 180 HP PTO articulating and oscillating tractor. Tractor had center linkage that was having a large number of field breakdowns. Dismantled the tractor into two sections. Determined centers of gravity, evaluated stress, shock loads, on castings, and bearings. Wrote technical report to management entitled "Analysis of Control Linkage and Center Bearing for Articulating and Oscillating Tractor-PTO 180". This provided a solution to the field problem.

GENERAL MOTORS AND MAGANAVOX: Mechanical Engineer
Electro-Mechanical component development for vehicles. Includes PWM solenoids and ignitionless distributor component development. Design, build and test of stands and fixtures for lab and field testing. Worked with test technicians, verification of endurance, performance, temperature, humidity, salt spray, voltage pull-in, vibration, etc. testing. Also Nox test systems for research. Disclosures were signed for two patents.
