I recently returned/relocated to the Bay Area, and somehow found myself staying in Santa Cruz for the last six weeks. I've liked it enough that I want to settle here. So..... I am looking for an apartment, or a room in a house, starting in September. My preference is to find a place that is my own, or with my own room - shared bathroom ok, kitchen privileges yes. I'd like to find something for less than $1,500, but can go up to $1,500. Also, would be very happy with a longer term house/apt sitting gig (1+ month).

Here is my story.

I am a 56 year old male, long time environmental educator and advocate, now working in a international context. I'd like to live in a house or apartment, either by myself or with one or more people (something I have done many times - I am more than willing to be an active member of the house to cook, clean, shop, handyman etc.). I am emotionally and financially stable (just sold my house in Montana). Experienced in age, youthful in spirit. As for my home life, I can be both communal and solo, knowing how to be social when that is right, and respectful of other's quiet when that is wanted (I am a quiet housemate).

During my 30's and 40's, I was executive director of two wildlife conservation organizations in the western U.S. I spent my 20's as a wilderness guide and environmental educator (including working in the Marin Headlands). Recently, I shifted my career focus to working in an international context, and to place more emphasis on helping people in other countries meet their basic needs (food, water, health, education, employment, etc.). I am starting a new organization to provide consulting/coaching/mentoring to smaller NGOs and social enterprises in other countries. I have spent 18 months traveling to 28 countries since 2000 - including a seven month trip around the world.

Let me know if I might be a fit for you.
