The Leadership Activity Specialist is responsible for implementing the SASF Leadership curriculum in the afterschool program. This includes concrete responsibilities such as reviewing lesson plans, ensuring materials are available, prepping all necessary supplies and coordinating activities. In addition to these pieces, the person will need to lead social emotional groups. Expectations are to create a safe, inclusive environment for all participants by engaging youth in conversation and actively using strength-based youth development practices.

Essential Job Functions:
*Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
*Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
*Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student's needs.
*Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
*Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment.
*Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation.
*Evaluate activity to determine if they are producing desired results.
*Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
*Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project
*Provide support during academic/homework hour
*Promotes positive character development in all youth
*Most SASF Arts Specialists are expected to provide homework support during Academic hour.
*Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
High School Diploma, Bachelor's degree preferred.
At least one year After-school work experience, or one full summer camp work experience, or two years related experience preferred.
Experience leading or co-facilitating peer groups
Ability to meet School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements and obtain clearances including: background checks, fingerprinting by NYC Dept of Health, fingerprinting by NYC Dept of Ed, annual medical clearance and annual TB test documentation.
Interest and experience in youth development and academic enrichment.
A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities, observation, coaching, and feedback.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a broad range of people including school staff, parents, co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to effectively manage time and to demonstrate strong organizational skills.
Ability to obtain and submit educational documentation as well as letters of reference.
