Position Description: Reporting to the Manager of Postdoctoral and Graduate Programs, the Academic Human Resources Partner is responsible for duties in the Academic Services (ACAD) Department, which include a variety of technical and confidential duties related to international and academic services. Position has a heavy emphasis on J-1 scholar program coordination and advising particularly with regard to the J-1 scholar program. The position will serve as the primary point of contact for J scholars to help them navigate through their stay in the United States while at the Institute. Position will also serve as U.S. Department of States (DOS) Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for Salk's J-1 Exchange Visitor Program (EVP). Academic Services responsibilities include consulting with directors, staff, and faculty as appropriate regarding visiting scientific personnel, new academic personnel, and rotation students from University of California, San Diego (UCSD) graduate programs. Handles an array of pre and post hire documentation, new hire onboarding and out processing. Position will serve as the primary contact for UCSD rotation students. Position will also provide back up support for the Manager of Postdoctoral & Graduate Programs. Position will provide administrative support to the Society of Research Follows (SRF), an on campus organization consisting of graduate and postdoctoral trainees. Education: Bachelors degree in International Studies, International Business, Political Science, or other closely related discipline that requires persuasive writing, strong reading comprehension, and analytic thinking, or equivalent combination of education and work experience is required. Experience: Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible professional, semi-autonomous experience supporting internal clientele, to include immigration and/or HR duties is required. Experience in an HR or International Office in a for profit or non-profit setting is required. Minimum of two years of experience using the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and serving as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) with the US Department of State advising J-1 scholars is strongly preferred. Experience in a scientific research environment and/or higher education environment is preferred. Prior study abroad or international work experience is preferred. Special Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident. Must satisfactorily complete the Institute's background investigation. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and overtime as needed based on workload and deadlines.Must be willing to sign an employee confidentiality agreement.
