Candidate provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in dance classes. Will help our students lay a good foundation of dance skills, ranging from pre-ballet, tap, hip hop and other creative dance techniques.
Have the ability to motivate, engage and instruct various dancing techniques from hip-hop, pre- ballet, creative dancing, etc. to young students, children ages 3 to 12 years old. The instructor must be able to lead dance classes on own, have a command on the group yet ensure lessons are fun, age and developmentally appropriate and instructions are given in a positive manner. Must be able to relate to public, parents and students. Exercises mature judgment and sound decision-making. They may work at production companies and also at schools, universities, and colleges.
Age: Minimum of 18 years of age
Education: Formal training helpful
Availability: Flexible/Weekday mornings 9-11 am, Weekday evenings 4-6 pm or Weekend mornings, 9-11 am (negotiable)
Related Experience: One years' experience as a dance instructor preferred
Licenses & Certifications: Current YMCA First Aid & CPR certification or equivalent certification*
*Within 90 days of employment or at first available training.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Dance Teachers are responsible for the group of children during dance class.
Ability to teach lessons for young children ages 3 to 14 years old from beginner to advanced levels by demonstrating dances before the class, in order to effectively teach students new moves.
Demonstrated ability to lead children in the development of dance skills such as hip hop, pre-ballet, creative dancing, etc.
Ability to observe and instruct participants in proper movements and dance steps
You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Position regularly requires the ability to do bending, kneeling and leaning.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds (small to mid-sized child) in order to perform essential functions.
All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors. Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department prior to beginning the first day of work.
1.Possesses a love for dance and teaching.
2.Instructs dance lessons as assigned.
3.Adapting teaching methods to meet students needs.
4.Communicates progress with students, parents, and supervisor. Provide weekly or semi-monthly a summary of the curriculum (i.e. steps that children are working on in dance class, etc.)
5.Maintains all records as required, such as attendance records, progress reports, etc.
6.Monitoring students performance.
Participates in staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
7.Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures, health and safety. Completes incident reports as necessary.
8.Organizes, clean, sanitize and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
9.Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
10.All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
11.Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management including Community Care Licensing's rules and regulations.

This position has a significant impact on the quality and effectiveness of the Enrichment Classes offered at Gateway Child Development Center. Our instructors display a passion for creative dance and making an impact on our youth by increasing physical skill and endurance, as well as a love for dance. Our instructors will introduce, foster and develop our youth into life-long creativity in performing arts.
