Job Title: Computer Instructor (Part Time)

Hubbard Place Apartments is a 230-unit apartment building located in Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C. All 230 apartments are occupied by low-income residents with Section 8 rental assistance.

Urban Village Apartments is a 72-unit garden style apartment community Columbia Heights. In 2003, the Urban Village Tenant Association and Somerset Development Company partnered to acquire, preserve the affordable rents and to renovate the property.

Job Summary:
This is a part time, hourly position.

We are looking to identify a computer instructor to teach beginners and intermediate computer instruction during the evening at two of our properties in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington DC. The goal of providing computer instruction on site is to give residents an opportunity to learn basic computer skills (for those who are unfamiliar with computers) and also to help residents, who might have basic skills, increase their job readiness. Classes will vary in size from 6-15 participants.

Instructor would be expected to be responsible for the following:

Develop curriculum and execute lesson plans for 6-8 week sessions of computer instruction. This might include any of the following:

o Computer Basics
o Setting Up & Using Email
o Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
o Internet Safety and Social Media for Job Search
o Resume Writing/Applying for a Job Online
o Final class project/presentation

Provide group and individual instruction as needed
Assure a clean, safe, and well maintained computer lab and communicate with management about technical or other issues as they occur
Provide pre and post assessments for participants in programming
Keep attendance records

Time Commitment & Compensation
This is part time hourly position (8 hours per week)

Required dates/hours:
Mondays/Wednesdays 5:00 pm-7:00 pm
Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:00 pm-8:00 pm

Compensation: $16- $20/hour depending on experience and commitment


Must complete background check
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have certification in field of instruction

Required experience:
Experience in academic/computer instruction: 2 years
