AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join the Fleet Reliability team. This team is responsible for designing and creating distributed, intelligent, and scalable services that monitor and manage the fleet health.
The tools are a key underlying component to much of EC2s operation. This team works with and learns about most of the EC2 services. They are exposed to a variety of technologies ranging from multiple programming languages to database design. This is a great opportunity to get exposed to everything that makes a highly scalable cloud service successful.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the potential of cloud computing, and about building simple and elegant software solutions. The candidate is a leader who can drive multiple simultaneous projects, prioritize well, communicate clearly and compellingly and who understands how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong team. AWS in general, and this business in particular, operates at very large scale and on critical workloads, so a passion for operational excellence is key.
This position requires the applicant selected to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility and access. A US Government administered polygraph examination will be required. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field
Six years (or more for senior developers) software development experience in a modern programming language, such as C, C++, Java, .NET, or Ruby
Minimum of two years experience systems integration
Minimum of one year experience running services on Linux
Masters or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science
Strong ownership, urgency, and drive to launch services
Demonstrated ability to communicate business and technical ideas to varied audiences including customers, peer engineers, and senior leadership
Lead projects and/or small teams within a fast paced environment (assist in mentoring, interviewing, code review, etc)
