How often, at the end of a work day, do you find yourself feeling somewhat frustrated or unfulfilled, like you're letting your talents and abilities go to waste? "What am I doing with my life?" you ask yourself.
You want to get more out of the work you do, feel a greater sense of accomplishment and purpose, feel like you are doing something meaningful--But how?
One way is to become a volunteer on the Samaritans of New York's 24-hour crisis hotline.
Feeling like the work they do matters, that they make a difference in the city they live in, that they are contributing something of substance--Samaritans hotline volunteers work together as part of a cooperative team of caring individuals devoted to helping people who are in distress and need some place to turn.
We are there to talk to people 24 hours a day if they feel isolated, alone or overwhelmed and need someone to turn to. We are looking for remarkable individuals to join our team. No experience is necessary!
Want to learn more? The next orientation sessions will be held Thursday, August 20th, Wednesday, August 26th and Tuesday, September 1st (with additional dates to follow).
Please email your full name, phone number and residential street address to or call to receive a Volunteer Information Packet by mail. (In your message, mention "/Code N.") We look forward to hearing from you!
Requirements: We are currently seeking volunteers who can donate one weekday morning, afternoon, evening or overnight shift a week. You'll be joining a great group of volunteers who work together in a supportive environment in a convenient Village location. Must be at least 21, have good communication and listening skills and be able make a 6-month commitment after training. No experience necessary!
