Spanish Teacher and Computer Teacher Needed for the 2015-2016 Academic Year
The OIC of America Office of National Literacy Programs is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing innovative programs to meet the educational and vocational needs of disadvantaged, at-risk youth and adults. As a result, their premier Accelerated Alternative high school known as the Career and Academic Development Institute (CADI) is in need of a Spanish Teacher and a Computer Teacher (2 separate positions). CADI provides educational services to over-aged, under-accredited out-of-school youth. Those who complete the program receive their high school diploma. CADI students, are more often than not, in need of extra services and follow-up in order to be successful in school and life. In addition to the traditional core classes, elective courses are offered via online instruction.
OIC offers an exciting opportunity to teach in non-traditional settings and experience great satisfaction. Our teachers stimulate interest and cooperation in individual and group classes and activities, and observe the student's behavior in response to various treatment efforts.
The Spanish Teacher's responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing Spanish grammar, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary and composition; guiding
students on conversational Spanish;
- teach students about Spanish language literature, culture and history; creating engaging
lesson plans; planning classroom activities to motivate students;
- Prepare visual aids; grading homework and exams; coaching students individually or as a group;
- Communicate with parents and other teachers about a student's progress; and other tasks as
- Provide lesson plans, providing in-depth attention to students as necessary;
- Assess each student's learning style; design and implement curriculum, instructional strategies,
and materials appropriate for this student population;
-Provide a learning environment to motivate youth.
- Provide effective written and verbal communication skills, excellent teaching skills,
interpersonal relations skills, time management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of various teaching materials. He/she must also be
compassionate, patient, observant, detail-oriented, creative and think outside the box.
The Computer Some other responsibilities but are not limited to:
Manage classrooms and coordinate procedures with education leaders and administrators to
implement school and district wide policies on use of software and appropriate websites
Organize coursework, plan lessons, lectures and multimedia presentations that are appropriate
for computer technology curriculum
Teach students Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.
Assist Counselor with the coordination of the administration of all district and statewide
assessments, including preparation before and follow-up after testing windows.
Implement all policies and procedures for the statewide assessment as directed by the Test
Coordinator's Manual, the Test Administration Manual.
Work with the school counselors as enrollment changes to maintain an accurate and
complete file of test histories and counts of students in each testing program
Conduct lab-style classroom visits for parents, guardians and guests, and schedule parent-
teacher conferences as needed
Work with students individually when necessary to evaluate progress and improve
performance in computing and IT skills
Comfortable working with computer hardware, software, networking and information
Effective communicators with good public speaking skills and strong presentation
Perform all other duties as may be assigned by the Principal or designee.
Requirements for both positions:
A Bachelor's degree is mandatory with at least 2 years experience of teaching in a high school setting.
All candidates must be at least 21 years of age with the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical/TB. Candidate must also have a PA Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse and FBI Clearance background within one year of issuance.
