In short, Flower City Pickers (FCP) is a secular, all inclusive not-for-profit group of volunteers that distributes leftover produce from Rochester's Public Market to local homeless shelters, halfway houses, soup kitchens, food pantries, and other organizations with need for food.

After collecting produce from vendors, the food is then sorted by volunteers into two food piles-one for usable food and one for compost. The pile for usable food is then shared among the various shelters and organizations FCP will be benefiting that week. The food for compost is shared among those with animals such as pigs, chickens, and rabbits or composted.

We do our best to ensure that no food is wasted and that it all goes inside the hungry bellies of people, animals, or our Mother Earth!

We have ASL and other language speakers present. All welcome! Young or old; able bodied or disabled; all can help and will be much appreciated!

For volunteering, we meet every Saturday at Rochester's Public Market for collections from 1pm through 4pm near Pennsylvania Avenue and 1st as shown on the map attached. For questions about what we do and how to get involved, visit the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page on our website ( and feel free to REPLY TO THIS POST.
