MHA, a respected nonprofit provider of residential and support services in the Greater Springfield area, is seeking an experienced Peer Mentor to support our participants through their recovery journey. MHA provides outreach and residential supports to people receiving services through the DMH Community Based Flexible Supports (CBFS) program. These services are person centered, recovery oriented and strength based with the goal of increasing independence, wellness and community engagement.
Peer Mentors are responsible for providing individual and small group support, skill building, and advocacy services to assigned participants in the Greater Springfield area. The Peer Mentor operates with the ultimate goal of assisting and empowering each individual to build confidence, develop skills, and progress on his/her own path to recovery. The Peer Mentor also helps the division monitor its own adherence to the guiding principles of person centered, trauma informed and strengths-based care. The Peer Mentor may also be asked to serve as a one time or ongoing participant representative on agency committees or in regular meetings to provide the valuable perspective of a person who has lived experience with psychiatric diagnosis, trauma, or extreme states.
We are seeking energetic and motivated individuals with lived experience with a psychiatric diagnosis, extreme states, and/or trauma. Experience mentoring others through their own recovery journey is highly preferred. Personal experience in navigating the mental health system is required. Professional experience in the human service field is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organization skills, a deep understanding of and respect for the populations we serve, and the ability to serve as a role model, mentor, coach and collaborator.
