Evaluating and specifying cutting tools for the most economical method of metal removal in various manufacturing operations. Responsible for preparing specifications for procuring and maintaining such tools and for determining economic tool life
Works with Manufacturing Engineer by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors.
Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods; conferring with tooling vendors.
Enhance the quality of products produced as well as processes
Cost reporting and cost reduction reporting will be required for monthly and annual analysis.
Manage key tooling projects
Cycle time reduction
Oversee engineering changes and tool repairs/regrinds
Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; estimating future requirements.
Prepares process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
Maintains product data base; entering data.
Completes design and development projects by training and guiding Staff.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Experience and Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field is preferred.
5 years of experience as a Tooling Engineer preferred
Experience in automotive manufacturing is required
Knowledge of standard machining operations used in a high-volume production facility.
Familiarity with all types of cutting tools (drills, mills, reamers, etc.)
Well rounded understanding of materials, surface finishes, and surface treatments.
Ability to read and understand tooling and work piece blueprints.
Proficiency in CAD
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with a strong emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
