I have been put in charge of finding homes for a litter of baby hamsters, including the mom and dad. Well the mom was pregnant again, and I didn't know until I heard little squeaks.
Born July 19, they have been weaned since August 12, and are ready for homes.
There are 3 girls and 3 boys left.
These are dwarf hamsters, so they tend to be territorial, so they are meant for older kids (8 or 9+) who are mature enough to handle them. They get the reputation for being mean but they just take a little patience to tame. Of the older litter, I ended up keeping 2 females, because they ended up being SO SWEET when they got used to me. Now they like to be out of their cage and run around. The newest litter seems to be the same way. The boys are calmer and sweeter than the girls.
They have big personalities and are very active and social compared to the teddy bear hamsters. They tend to nip more but with proper handling they are super sweet.
I'm not a breeder, I don't intend to make money off of them. I want them in homes that can take good care of them.
The easiest way to tame them is to use a glove and let them crawl up to it. Then you can move it to your ungloved hand and gently put it back in the cage and repeat. In a day or two I was able to tame a few and with the older litter I didn't have to use gloves after a week or two.
