This position offers daytime hours and room for advancement.
Surgical Technician (Scrub Tech):
Surgical technician are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technician's possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
The Scrub Surgical Technician handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Duties are but not limited to: as follows:
1.Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure are properly disinfected and assembled
2. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
3.Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure
4.Transfers patient to operating room table
5.Assists anesthesia personnel
6.Positions patient, using appropriate equipment
7.Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed
8.Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants
9.Helps in draping sterile field
10. Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure
11.Operates necessary procedure equipment to assist surgeon
12.Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
13.Anticipates additional supplies needed during the procedure
14.Properly cares for specimens
15.Prepares sterile dressings
16.Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
17.Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room
18.Assists in prepping room for the next patient
19.Keeps track of current inventory
20.Orders supplies as needed from contracted vendors
21.Maintains SDS Binder
22.Maintains current and appropriate Logs for tracking and monitoring sterilization processes
23.Sterilizes all instruments according to manufacturers, state/federal, and facility guidelines
24.Maintains and runs Autoclaves according to manufacturers, state/federal, and facility guidelines
25.Assists staff in maintain facility per policies and procedures, and regulating guidelines
26.Monitors gas levels for equipment usage and maintenance
1.Must have a full range of body joints, with the ability to stoop, bend, reach, pull and push.
2. Ability to carry objects weighting up to 60 pounds on a daily basis.
3. Ability to stand unassisted for greater than 12 hours in a small work area.
4. Able to execute controlled motor movements to provide direct care and emergency treatment to patients.
5.Ability to execute fine motor ability and visual acuity in order to manipulate sutures finer than a human hair.
6.Good peripheral vision (with correction, if needed) to view images or other forms of output created by equipment.
7.Ability to demonstrate adequate hearing/listening skills (with correction, if needed) that include correctly understanding voices with background noises occurring.
8.Ability to withstand unusual sights and unpleasant smells.
9.Ability to distinguish left from right.
*Must have at least 1 year experience.
