The Transportation Manager is under the general supervision of the Vice President of Operations. This position directs the operation of the organization's delivery department through the supervision of Dispatchers, Supervisors, Routers and staff. The Manager will be responsible for a dedicated fleet in support of DC operations and shipments from multiple locations to both internal and external customers. The position is responsible for all the transportation needs for multiple DC locations. The manager must ensure compliance with company policy, safety procedures, OSHA, DOT and other regulatory bodies. Must also identify and correct procedural problems; review the feasibility of new or revised systems and procedures; interviews, selects, trains and develops subordinate staff. The essential duties of this position are as follows.

Plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
Develops department goals within the framework of Company goals and mission; establishes department policies and procedures.
Serves on Safety Committee, directs the planning, development and implementation of necessary policies and procedures.
Participates in collective bargaining process and labor contract negotiations.
Creates and implements department budget; oversees implementation and ensures programs' compliance.
Oversee a staff of Transportation professionals and supporting Clerical personnel.
Interviews, selects, trains, develops, and evaluates subordinates.
Conducts performance and salary reviews for subordinates, participates in training seminars/meetings as necessary.
Implements and monitors adherence to all company policies
Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking of all transportation vehicles from all origins.
Collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
Direct and coordinate, through subordinates, activities of transportation department in order to obtain use of equipment, facilities, and human resources.
Investigate and resolve customer or carrier issues.
Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
Analyze expenditures and other financial information in order to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
Negotiate and authorize contracts with Carriers and LTLs, and monitor contract fulfillment.
Assist with design, monitoring and interpretation of data collection and reporting needs.
Manage freight claims with carriers
All other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
Bachelor's Degree Preferred-High School Diploma or equivalent with10+ years distribution or transportation operations experience in DSD, including 5 years of supervisory experience
Fully versed in all aspects of distribution, delivery, transportation, and safety policies and procedures
Roadnet experience preferred
Demonstrated problem-solving skills
Ability to implement all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, various ethics policies and Affirmative Action

Frequent standing and/or walking.
Frequent sitting, steering wheel manipulation and truck gear shift while operating commercial motor vehicles.
Frequent use of hand truck, straps, metal ramp, truck door, dolly.
Frequent In/Out of Truck/Trailer (vertical steps 12" and 20") to cab. On/Off ramp and platform of trailer. Use of stairs and delivery ramps.
Frequent lifting of 1-50 lbs. and turn body, occasionally up to 75lbs.
Frequent bending, squatting, pushing and pulling
Frequent use of both hands and arms: reaching, grasping and carrying.
Constant use of visual and hearing abilities required to perform essential job functions and maintain safety standards.
Must exhibit a required level of endurance, energy and strength to successfully perform position.
