Lead Teacher Job Description

Plans and implements activities that promote the social, physical and intellectual
growth of children. Responsible for, models, and is held accountable for the care, hygiene,
learning and developmental activities, specialized programs, and redirection of children
covering infant, toddler, pre-school and pre-kindergarten age groups. Communicates
directly with parents. Maintains classroom records, cleanliness and orderliness.
Summary of essential job functions
Engage with current and prospective parents and family members and respond to their needs
Comply with company and all governmental regulations regarding the care of children
Understand responsibilities as a mandated reporter
Keep the Center Director informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children
Complete timely and accurate documentation according to company and other licensing or regulation requirements
Use time wisely and take initiative when appropriate
Assist and accept responsibilities in other daily center duties that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available
Follow procedures and policies as stated in the Parent and Staff Handbook
Demonstrate knowledge of and models understanding of company philosophy including our curriculum
Maintain accreditation standards and licensing regulations at all times
Greet children and parents daily at drop off and pick up
Attend and participate in staff meetings, center events, and parent/customer meetings as required
Be a supportive and contributing member of the team
Demonstrate initiative in decision making; i.e. transitions, classroom management, crisis management
Provide appropriate role modeling to fellow staff members
Consistently demonstrate a positive and professional attitude
Follow the dress code as stated in the Staff Handbook
Adhere to and act in line with company mission and values at all times
Meet all deadlines

Job Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrate proficiency in early childhood care and education
Teacher skills with demonstrated proficiency
Solid organizational skills
Creates effective customer service strategies for children and families
Understanding of Beansprouts policies and governmental regulations regarding the care of children
Knowledge of NAEYC accreditation requirements
Enjoys an increased level of interaction with parents
Ability to explain Beansprouts philosophy and policies to parents and staff
Can create a team environment
Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum

Program Responsibilities:
Complete child evaluations and conduct parent conferences
Contribute to regular monthly newsletters
Delegate appropriate responsibilities to coworkers/assistants
Notify director when a child is ill, injured or experiencing other changes while at school
Plan, implement, and revise curriculum and program materials consistently and appropriately
Create and maintain child portfolios as described in the Curriculum manual
Insure daily schedules incorporate a balance of indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, individual/group child initiated/teacher initiated activities
Provide opportunities for coworkers to give input and feedback regarding curriculum, environment and the overall program
Maintain positive learning environments
Understand and comply with Beansprouts confidentiality agreement
Seek assistance as needed regarding child development issues and provide assistance when necessary
Complete 30 hours of professional development per year
Proactive in implementing best practices in the program

Classroom Responsibilities:
Coordinate classroom responsibilities with other classroom Teachers and/or Assistant Teachers
Coordinate with teachers and center administration to ensure appropriate ratios at all times
Insure all children are accounted for and properly supervised
Insure that classroom setup allows for ease of supervision and foresees any changes that may need to be implemented
Perform and delegate appropriate housekeeping activities that will insure health and safety to children (i.e.: wiping spills, clearing debris, etc.)
Perform and delegate the sanitizing of toys with either soaking in a vinegar and water solution or by running through the kitchen sanitizer daily
Perform and delegate cleaning of classroom tables and chairs with a bucket of soap and water and a sponge

Approach issues and problems through teamwork and collaborative efforts
Address conflict in a fair, equitable and diplomatic manner
Share ideas and information about child development; research appropriate information
Emphasize the positive, communicate concerns in a timely fashion
Be viewed as a team player and act as a role model to team members
Focus on solving problems and think out ideas that may be best for children and families
Support decisions and acts as a resource to others
Is collaborative and inclusive when faced with issues that arise with children and families
Genuinely care about and relate to all kinds of people constructively

Minimum requirements
Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in ECE or related field, or a CDA; commensurate experience considered
Willing and able to pursue higher education in accordance with NAEYC, and state guidelines for ECE teachers.
Current First-Aid and CPR certification
Evidence of Negative TB, physical exam, and MMR verification
45 hour infant/toddler certification or the equivalent of infant/toddler specific coursework preferred
2+ years of experience in an approved early childhood setting
Individuals who possess a genuine passion for caring for children, as well as a strong combination of communication and interpersonal skills.
Meets experience criteria required by the state

Physical abilities required
Work is performed primarily in the center environment
Centers are dynamic with a high level of activity
Work may also be performed in the community on field trips
Must be able to lift 40 lbs and stand for up to 95% of the day
Assume posture at low levels, stoop, sit on floor and bend down numerous times per day
Agility to move from seated to standing position quickly to respond to children's needs
Perform all activities with children for prolonged periods such as dancing, jumping, running, and walking
Can perform all duties both indoors and outdoors
Possess acceptable hearing and vision capabilities in order to monitor well-being of children
Work hours may vary to accommodate needs of children and families
