Firebrand Media is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented college students for an editorial internship in magazine journalism for fall 2015. Those with digital experience/interest are particularly encouraged to apply.
Our interns will gain valuable practical experience and knowledge working on the company's regional magazines and luxury hotel publications. Our program offers a hands-on, real-world experience for college students looking to break into the magazine industry--meaning you won't be going on coffee runs or filing paperwork.
Interns will have an opportunity to:
Write content for the magazines and leave with published print clips.
Assist editors in editing/fact-checking articles.
Develop story ideas and participate in planning meetings, where they will pitch their ideas to the editorial team.
Work on other assignments according to skill set and level of interest.
Develop digital stories and repurpose content for the Web.
Requirements: We ask that all applicants have a serious interest in pursuing magazine journalism as a career; college coursework in communications, journalism, English or related fields; and basic knowledge of AP Style or a willingness to learn. This is an educational experience for students, so interns should be open to receiving regular feedback.
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for academic credit; we will help take care of any paperwork relating to college credit. A stipend to cover gas/parking expenses is provided.
Schedule: We are flexible and can accommodate school and work schedules, but we ask that interns commit to a minimum of two days per week in our Laguna Beach office.
Please email your resume, cover letter and two writing samples (school newspaper/magazine and journalism class assignments are acceptable) with "INTERNSHIP -- [FIRSTNAME] [LASTINITIAL]" in the subject line. Do not call or stop by the office or your application will be discarded.
