I'm adding this post to the skilled trade section of PandaHi because I am a homeowner who hired a man form PandaHi who claimed to be a licensed contractor and respected carpenter to do some repairs on my home and ended up with an unfinished deck and a mess. I take responsibility for not contacting this person's references before hand and for not requesting their license # for the electrical work they did, however I'm hoping that by posting this it will alert other homeowners as to how important it is to check references and to not only get their license # for their trade but to confirm with the issuing authority that it is indeed valid. You may think you'll be saving money by hiring someone who claims to be licensed form PandaHi, but in sharing my story I've found there are many homeowners out there in the same boat, that boat being it ended up costing them more money to pay someone not only to complete the project but to clean up what someone else started. Even if the person has a portfolio with pictures ASK for verifiable references AND CALL them. After this man who claimed to be a licensed electrician left me with a mess I called the references he originally gave me and not only were some of them phoney, 1 of the people told me that he had left them in a very similar way. There are plenty of handymen, carpenters and contractors out there who are affordable that have integrity and references to back it up, and a valid license for the work they do that requires a license, all you have to do is follow up on the info they give you.
