The RCYF MY HERO! Program has been established to promote the healthy development of children and youth by providing them with quality freindships with caring adults. As a key member of our program team working within the HERO program, this position provides assessment, training and support to volunteers and the families they serve.
Job Responsibilities:
Works closely with the HERO Coordinator to provide quality mentoring services to youth.
Mentoring services provided are consistent with the principles of effective mentoring programs.
Services include recruitment, placement, monitoring, and evaluation of mentor-mentee matches and collaborative working with internal and external entities to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients.
Job Duties:
Assist with screening prospective volunteers to determine their eligibility to volunteer.
Assist with determining the suitability of our services for individual families.
Assist with recruiting and matching adult volunteers with children to ensure positive mentoring relationships are formed.
Assist with supervising and monitoring matches between adult volunteer mentors and children to ensure River City Youth Foundation standards are maintained and the safety of children is upheld.
Maintain accurate family and volunteer file records, ensuring that all required documentation is complete.
Schedule and deliver volunteer and family infomation sessions as well as child safety workshops.
Promote skill development among volunteers (networking groups, training workshops, etc.)
Engage volunteers and families in problem solving processes where required.
Facilitate and promote support programs for families.
Maintain contact with families who are waiting for service
Assist with the evaluation of the effectiveness of service delivery programs
Perform other duties as requested by the Mentoring Coordinator or eexcutive Director.
Job Qualifications:
Appropriate experience in the social services sector in the Dove Springs community, preferably related to mentoring.
knowlege of mentoring theory, principles, and practices.
Excellent oral and written English skills.
Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills.
Demonstrated supervisory experience
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Solid presenter and communicator
Strong net-working & relationship-building skills: must have the ability to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers and associated non-profit or publically funded groups, agencies and organizations
Problem-solving ability, resourcefulness and resilience are required for success in this fast paced work place
knowlege of child abuse prevention
knowlege of the challenges facing new immigrant families.
Dependable transportation, valid driver's license, and adequate vehicle insurance.
Must pass a criminal background check.
Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office products.
Educational Requirements:
BSW or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
College degree prefered in human services, social work, criminal justice, or other related field.
Continuing educational plan of training in related youth and family issues with regard to mentoring services is required.
Prefered Qualifications:
Adherence to the social work professional code of ethics.
Bilingual English/Spanish, proficiency prefered
Cultural competence with families form diverse backgrounds
Good physical and mental health.
Must have flexible schedule and ability to work evenings and/or weekends year-round.
First Aid and CPR training prefered.
