GAIL BUONOGaiI Buono has been fascinated by parts of the circle (arcs, ovals, ovoids, and spirals) for many years. Her current series is entitled "Kaleidoscope", based on a 12-pointed star (arcs emanating form 12 equidistant points on the circle.) The series is comprised of oil paintings, pastel/watercolor drawings, and digital prints. The Kaleidoscope paintings have a sence of being portals that open to new metaphysical worlds. When the viewer stands before one of these paintings, there is a feeling that one could jump into the center of the painted space. Vibrant color and light are infused with circular movement. Buono's primary medium is oil painting, but also, she is creatively drawn to incorporating photography in printmaking, works on paper, and digital prints. The digital prints weave an abstract relationship between her landscape photographs and imagery form the paintings, depicting dual realities inhabiting the same space/time continuum. All the exhibited prints are archivally printed, matted and backed. Most are in limited editions of ten. Currently, through April 28th, one of the large paintings form the Kaleidoscope series, entitled FUTURE PATH, is on view at 516Arts, in Albuquerque, as part of The New Mexico Showcase, commemorating the 5th anniversary of 516Arts, guest juried by Peter Frank. Directions to 516Arts and more infomation can be found on her website:
