My name is Dennis Foley, I am a family friend of the late Dorothy Russ. Dotty passed away in Santa Cruz, CA last year.
I am helping her son Richard with all the stuff in the estate.

Her favorite piece of art is the attached Original Oil Painting by Filastro Mottola. I portrays rowboats lolling on the river near his family's hometown in Italy. Way back in the 60's Dotty was living in Southern California and married to an attorney named Bill Lund. According to Dotty, Bill was working for A famous film studio when did some work for Fil on the side and this painting was a gift to the Lund family from Mr. Mottola himself. Fil was a key imagineer in the wonderful world of WALT D... Dotty loved this painting and it hung in her dining room for all to enjoy.

Born in 1915 in New Jersey, Fil's parents were Italian immigrants from Naples. In the early 20's his family moved to Los Angeles. It was there in the late 30's that his talents were noticed and he became a special scholarship student at the well-known and respected Otis Art Institute. From 1949 to 1961, Fil worked for studios as a background painter for Cartoon Features IN HOLLYWOOD... You will find his name in many screen credits including Lady and the Tramp , Sleeping Beauty , & Peter Pan. After leaving said studio, he then actively pursued the career of an independent artist.

From Italy to San Francisco, Fil worked plein-air in many locations and his amazing vibrant colors are currently displayed all over the world. Mottola's work has been displayed in galleries throughout the nation for over fifty years. Sadly, Fil Mottola passed away in March of 2008. He will be missed... His originals are now considered to be one of the best investments in contemporary art today.
