E. M. Ashe copy of "Ring-A-Round The Roses" Black folk art. From 1889. Signed E M Ashe 89. Comes in a simple black stained wooden frame. Frame is 18 5/8" X 12 5/8" Picture is 16 5/8" X 10 5/8" The artist captures the varied expressions on the children's faces, especially of the child wishing she could have some of the watermelon. The print appears to be a copy of a watercolor. Asking only $75.
Edmund Marion Ashe (1867-1941) Native of Staten Island, New York, Edmund Ashe studied at the Metropolitan Art School and at the Art Students League with Charles Vanderhoof and John Stimson. He made various drawing for magazines and worked for the white house as well.
